Frank “Shimky” Burchik, 95, passed away peacefully in his Canonsburg home on September 16, 2017 with loved ones by his side.
Frank was born on September 13, 1922 and was the last surviving child of Michael and Erma Dorchak Burchik. He was preceded in death by siblings
Alice, Mary, Anna, Thelma, Matilda, Erma, Zelma and Michael. Frank was married to Josephine Mele Burchik on October 8, 1948. The two were married for 54 years until her passing on October 5, 2003. Frank and Josephine are survived by three children, Sandra (Lou) DelBene, Danny Burchik and Lori (Harold) Griffith. He was preceded in death by son Frank Burchik. Also surviving are grandchildren Todd Heath-Hazlett, Lisa (Dennis) Cooper, Nicole (Michael) Bianco and great-grand son Michael Bianco.
Mr. Burchik, also known as “Papa” and “Uncle Frank” to many, was a World War II veteran and purple heart recipient. During his military service he served in the European Theater in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Burchik earned the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He was also a part of the Iron Workers Union Local 3, and played a part in the construction of the Strabane VFW Post 553 where he was an active member, and Houston American Legion Post #902.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday September 20, 2017. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens in Peters Township.
Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the VFW Post #191 of Canonsburg.
