Patrick M. Alterio, 96, of Canonsburg passed away Thursday January 25, 2018 in Consulate Skilled Nursing Center in North Strabane Township.
He was born January 14, 1922 in Washington the son of Michael and Dorothy DeCarlo Alterio.
He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army in their Medical Corps. serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Mr. Alterio was employed as a fabricator at the Fort Pitt Bridge Works in Canonsburg for forty years. He enjoyed dancing and woodworking and was a member of the American Legion Post #902 and the VFW Post #191.
On May 25, 1946 he married Helen Garbera who passed away June 4, 2001.
Surviving is a daughter Adele (Frank) Large of Pittsburgh and a son Glenn Alterio of Houston, two grandsons Austin and Patrick Large and Many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Alterio was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by six sisters Ann Avolia, Mary Mahramus, Edith Gisoni, Dolores Abbandanza, Ester Alterio and Alvera Vargo and three brothers Louis Alterio, Domenic Altieri and Daniel Alterio.
Friends will be received from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg where a Parastas Serice will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday January 29, 2017 in the funeral home followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. John The Baptist Church Orthodox Church at 601 Boone Ave. in Canonsburg with Rev. Joseph Oleynik officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery in Canonsburg with full military honors by the United States Army and the VFW Post #191 Honor Guard.
