Philip Samuel Levato, 81, of Canonsburg passed away Friday December 30, 2016 in his home following a seven-years long courageous  battle with cancer.

He was born June 11, 1935 in Washington the son of Samuel Philip and Rose Ruggerio Levato.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Navy from June of 1953 to June of 1956.  During his military service he served aboard the USS Wadleigh and the USS Randolph and earned the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater Ribbon.  He was discharged as a Seman/BM3.

Mr. Levato was an accomplished musician and played tenor and alto Saxaphone.  He was a member of the Phil-la-of-Soul Band in the Washington area and later played with Rockin’ Revue and several other local bands for more than thirty years.

He was a member of the VFW Post #175 and the American Legion Post #902 in Houston.

Santiago Distributor employed him as a brand manager for more than twenty-five years.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and Pirates Baseball fan.

On March 31, 1973 in Winchester, VA he married Marjorie Castner who survives.

Surviving are two sons Samuel (Lisa) Levato of Washington and Shawn (Caterina) Levato of Canonsburg and two daughters Jody Levato of Annapolis, MD and Brandy (George) Knight of Munhall and two aunts Lucille Spina of Irvine, CA and Yolanda Levato of Washington.  Also surviving are four grandchildren Tiffany Bockstoce, Courtney Zatta, Levi Levato and Evan Levato, four great grandchildren Ryan and Charlie Bockstoce and Brynn and Bradley Zatta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Constance Caruso and a grand daughter Stephanie Levato.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday January 3, 2017 in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 4, 2017.  Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 2:00 p.m. with full military rites to be accorded by the American Legion Post #175 of Washington and the United States Navy.
