Alfredo J. Marinelli, 81 , of Canonsburg died Thursday August 20, 2015 in Canonsburg General Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 22, 1934 in Barisciano, Italy the son of Ernesto and Carmela DiPaolo Marinelli.
He immigrated on his own to the United States from Italy in 1951 at the age of seventeen and lived with family in Philadelphia. Shortly thereafter he reunited with Dina his future beloved wife who was also born in Barisciano, Italy.
After serving two years in the US Army, he moved to Muse, PA, where they married.
He worked as an auto mechanic and then took a job as a large finisher at Pennsylvania Transformer, McGraw Edison, which then became Cooper Industries in Canonsburg. He was known as the “Engineer” for his ability to solve complex technical issues.
He enjoyed making wine, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was very industrious and had a natural ability to solve problems.
He was a member of the Muse Independent Club and the Italian American Society of Washington County.
On February 20, 1960 in Holy Rosary Church in Muse, he married his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Dina Palma DiNardo D’Alessandro who passed away on September 19, 2012.
Surviving are three daughters Mary C. (David) Semich of Bridgeville, Tina L. (Pasquale) DiCello of Bridgeville and Theresa C. Ransil of Canonsburg and a son Anthony J. (Sandy) Marinelli of Mt. Lebanon. Also surviving are his grandchildren Julia C. Ransil, Sofia M. Marinelli, Santino J. Marinelli and Carlo V. Cubito
Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the VFW Post #191.
Also surviving is a sister in law Lidia Marinelli of Italy and many nieces, nephews and cousins still living in Italy.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Giovanni and Antonio Marinelli and a sister Lidia Celi.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College St. in Canonsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday August 24, 2015 in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Canonsburg.
