Angelo Cianelli, 92, of Canonsburg, died suddenly on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Washington Hospital with his loving family at his bedside.  He was born September 1, 1923, in Canonsburg, the son of Angelo Cianelli Sr. and Maria D’Achille Cianelli.  At the age of 6 months, he and his family returned to the mountain village of Palombaro, Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo Region of Italy.  He returned to Canonsburg in 1940 at the age of 16, to join his father and older brother Nick, working with them as a carpenter and homebuilder.  In 1944, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in WWII.  He again returned to Canonsburg, and on May 8, 1949 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, he married Eileen Conforti of Canonsburg.  Angelo built or worked on many of the homes in Canonsburg.  The last several years of his career, he was employed at Mayview State Hospital as a master carpenter.  He also re-enlisted and served many years as a Builder in the U. S. Navy Seabee Reserves.  Mr. Cianelli was a past member of the Italian-American Society of Washington County.  For many years, he was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg.

Surviving are a son, Don (Elena) Cianelli of Newtown Square, Pa; daughter Mary Ann (Chris) Child of Long Beach, Calif.; his sister Chiara (Guerriero) D'Achille of Ardmore, sister-in-law Josephine (Kenneth) Hudson of Laguna Woods, Calif; brother-in-law Anthony (Nancy) Conforti of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Angelo Cianelli, Annalucia Cianelli, Peter (Tatiana) Cianelli, Samuel Cianelli, Grant Heasley, Michael Heasley and Gianna Heasley; his great-granddaughter, Aubrey Cianelli-Mazzenga; a son in law Jeff Buckel, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased are his parents, his wife of 66 years Eileen, his daughter Lori Cianelli-Heasley, his son-in-law Christopher Child; his brother Nick (Aldine) Cianelli Sr., his brother Vinceslao, and his brother-in-law Guerriero D’Achille.

Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1 in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg. Departing prayers will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.  Full military honors will be accorded by United States Army and the VFW Post #191 Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Christian Mothers (317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317) or to the Purple Heart Foundation (https://purpleheartfoundation.networkforgood.com/).  A guest book is available at www.deangelocare.com.
