Anthony Joseph “Tony” Abruzzi

“Twenty Year US Air Force Veteran”

Anthony Joseph Abruzzi, 84, of Muse Died Friday November 20, 2015 in West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born June 19, 1931 in Muse the son of Antonio and Susan Bianchi Abruzzi.

Mr. Abruzzi was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg.

He was also a member of the Muse Independent Club, the American Legion Post #902 in Houston, the VFW Post #191 in Canonsburg and the White Eagles in Canonsburg.  

He enjoyed cooking and baking and became known as “Mr. Fixit” since he loved to help others with building projects.  He also loved dancing, hunting and going to his cabin in Newmansville.  Mr. Abruzzi enjoyed harness racing and went to the Meadows Racetrack and Casino often.  He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and Pirates Baseball fan.

Mr. Abruzzi served for more than twenty years in military service in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1968.  He served during the Korean War and Vietnam.

Cooper Industries in Canonsburg employed him as a winder for twenty years.

Surviving is a son Richard J. (Dawn) Abruzzi of Muse and two stepsons Father Stan DeBoe of Ellicott City, MD and Mark (Allison) DeBoe of Clarksville.  Also surviving are two grandchildren Jymmie-Marie and Cody Abruzzi and three sisters Dorothy Weaver of Washington, Dolores Abruzzi of Muse and Nanetta Abruzzi of Muse.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Ruthann Charska-Ovesen, Mary Murdy and Nancy Lesjak and four brothers Julius Abruzzi, Cordi Abruzzi, Louis Abruzzi and Jimmy Abruzzi.  Also deceased is his long-term companion of more than thirty years, Mary Kostelich.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College in Canonsburg.  Departing prayers will be held in DeAngelo Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday November 24, 2015 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday November 24, 2015 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church at 317 West Pike Street in Canonsburg.

Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
