Charles Edward DelBene, Jr. 75, of Canonsburg died Tuesday March 3, 2015 in Broadmoor Senior Living Lakeview Farms in Bridgeville following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 27, 1939 in Canonsburg the son of the late Charles Edward Sr. and Susan C DeMatteo DelBene.
He graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1957 and then from California State University with a Masters Degree in Education.
Mr. DelBene had a long and distinguished career as a science and chemistry teacher. He taught at the Community College of Allegheny County, Char Valley High School for thirty-two years, then South Park High School and Canevan High School for an additional four years. He was a member of Pennsylvania State Educators Association, NEA. Shooting trap and skeet was one of his favorite hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and member of the Washington County Sportsman’s Club and the Dormont Mt. Lebanon Sportsman’s Club. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and the friends of the NRA.
Mr. DelBene was a life long member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg where he was active in the Catholic Men’s Club and served on the Alter for Funeral Masses. He was also a member of Ben’s Men’s Club at St. Benedict the Abbott Church in McMurray.
On August 22, 1964 in St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg, he married Dolores Kotyk who survives. He and his wife recently celebrated fifty years of marriage
Surviving is a sister Susan “Christine” DelBene of Bossier City, LA, a sister-in-law Lillian (Joseph) Cherenko of Valencia, PA and a brother-in-law Daniel S. (Karen) Kotyk of South Park.
Also surviving is a niece Kristen Keegan and a nephew Daniel Kotyk and numerous cousins.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College St. in Canonsburg. The Christian Mothers of St. Patrick Parish will pray the Rosary at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday March 7, 2015 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
