Charles W. Gilmore, 95, of Washington passed away peacefully on Saturday August 31, 2024 in his home.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the love of his life.
Born January 16, 1929 in Ellsworth a son of Charles and Olive May Pike Gilmore.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington where he volunteered for various church activities.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the German Occupational Forces post WWII.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #175, the VFW Post #927, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #22, and the Arms Club.
For more than forty years he was employed as a dock worker for Suwak Trucking Industry retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Teamsters local union.
Charles enjoyed family vacations, visiting his daughters in Texas, vacationing at Deep Creek Lake, water skiing and taking cruises throughout the Caribbean.
On October 24, 1953 in St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Bentleyville, he married Katherine Ambrosy who passed away August 1, 2017.
Surviving are two daughters Susan (Tony) Capuro of The Colony, TX, and Teresa (Clay) Smith of Carrollton, TX; two sons Michael Gilmore of Burgettstown and Mark (Tammy) Gilmore of Washington. Also surviving are three granddaughters Jennifer Makowski, Nicole McDonough, Danielle Carroll, and two grandsons Jared Gilmore and Brandon Gilmore; and seven great grandchildren Mason, Cadence, Sebastian, Leo, Ava, Cienna and Charlie.
Surviving are three sisters Alma Stolfer, Ann Siranni and Helen Kononuk.
He was preceded in death in addition to his wife Katherine by a daughter-in-law Linda Gilmore, and two grand-daughters Jenna Gilmore and Samantha Gilmore and a sister Laura Gilmore Rosfeld.
The family requests private services and burial at a later date in Washington Cemetery.
