Domenick D’Amico, 86, of Canonsburg, PA, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015. He was born on November 26, 1928 in Roccacinquameglia, Italy, a son of the late Alfonso and Emilia D’Amico. After World War II, at the age of 17, he came to the United States to begin a new life.
When he arrived in the United States, he lived in Muse, PA, with his uncle and aunt, John and Pasqualina D’Amico. During this time he worked at many jobs, including bricklaying, masonary, and carpentry. In 1958, he began his own business, M.D.P. Cabinet Shop, in Canonsburg, where he made custom made cabinetry for 42 years. He retired in 2001, leaving his son to continue the business.
Mr. D’Amico was a man who was proud of his Italian heritage. He was happy to pass on the skills of wine making and the preparation of Italian meats and foods to family members and the friends of his son. With this, he knew that these special skills would be passed on to future generations to enjoy. He also enjoyed planting his annual garden, which he continued to do until his death.
He was a member of the Muse Independent Club, Sons of Italy, and The Italian-American Cultural and Heritage Society of Washington County.
In 1993, he was honored by the Italian American Cultural and Heritage Society by receiving it’s Italian Businessman’s Achievement Award and the Sons of Italy for his Italian heritage and life’s accomplishments.
On November 17, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Laberta DiFlauro, who passed way, January 2014. Together they raised three children, who are left to carry on the Italian family traditions, Amy, Christine and Alfonso (Cindy) D’Amico, all of Canonsburg. He also leaves behind cousins, Gloria D’Amico and Eva Tomasetti and their families of Canonsburg; Domenic Lombardozzi and Grace DiSalvo of Pittsburgh and their families; Alfiero, Angelo, Renato D’Amico and Christina Corrado and their families, all of Italy; Sabatino D’Amico and family of Australia; and a brother in law, Raymond DiFlauro of Hesperia, CA.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1-8 p.m. Thursday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg. Departing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in DeAngelo Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Friday September 11, 2015 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations to made to the Italian American Cultural Heritage Association of Washington County for a scholarship in memory of Domenick D’Amico.
