Emma Elizabeth Morrell (Nee Ponzo) was born in Washington, Pa. on June 24, 1924, to the late Mary Irene Mills and Harley Calvin Ponzo.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Albert in 1948. To their union was born three lovely children Marrietta, Marsha and Albert Jr.
At a very early age Emma accepted Christ as her lord and Savior at Bethlehem Temple Church. She was a faithful servant of the church and rarely missed her weekly and Sunday services. She served as a member/Trainer of the Usher Board, Assistant Financial Secretary, Missionary President, President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Chairman of the First Lady’s Appreciation Committee, Picnic coordinator and dining room committee. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and later became the Sunday School Superintendent. Additionally, she acknowledged her call to the gospel ministry and became a licensed minister under the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Her ministerial title was Evangelist.
Emma’s love for Christ was witnessed in her actions and deeds. She exemplified a Christ-like spirit. Emma was kind, dedicated to her family and a compassionate listener. She was comical at times and enjoyed laughter. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, shopping, crocheting, and knitting. She loved to travel with her husband and family. Her family was the center of her life. She thrived on the family times and was proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Emma enjoyed being a stay at home mother while her children were in school. When her youngest graduated from high school, she was hired by Sears. She loved her job and remained with Sears until her retirement 30 years later.
On Monday, January 25, 2021, she departed this life to her heavenly home with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Morrell Sr, son Albert Morrell Jr., brothers and sisters: Irene Hamilton, Walter Ponzo, John Ponzo, Josephine Girten, Rosella Brown, Betty Grinage, Harley Ponzo, Robert Ponzo and Edith Ponzo.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Marrietta Wasler, Marsha Morrell Smith (Hilton); one brother Kenneth Ponzo; two sisters, Pauline Williams and Gloria Ponzo; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
