Frank G. Egizio

“Loved family and his community”

Frank G. Egizio, 87, of Southview died Wednesday November 4, 2015 in the Donnell House Washington following a brief illness.

He was born October 27, 1928, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Antonio and Irene (Costello) Egizio.  Mr. Egizio was a longtime member of St. Patrick Parish in Canonsburg.

He was a resident of Southview for the past 35 years.  Prior to moving to Southview, he was a resident of Canonsburg and Muse.

Mr. Egizio was a longtime member, and board member of the Muse Italian Club.

Mr. Egizio was involved in public office for about 40 years as a Democrat.  He was elected to a six-year term on Canon-McMillan School Board as a representative from Cecil Township in 1961, several years before the district consolidated.  He was one of 21 board members.

The district consolidated in 1966.  Egizio was elected the first president of the new nine-member board.  During the same time, Egizio worked out of his home as the township secretary for Cecil Township.

In 1967, Mr. Egizio did not seek re-election to the school board, but instead chose to run for township supervisor.  Although he lost that election, he continued to work as secretary for Cecil Township until 1969, he was then elected to the first of his five six-year terms as Cecil Township Supervisor.  He was most proud of helping to establish a professional road department to maintain the township’s 70 miles of roadway.  During his tenure as Cecil Township Supervisor, he drew on his 25 years of experience as a foreman in the heavy highway construction industry, at Russell Industries that enabled him to help improve the road infrastructure of Cecil Township.  Earlier on he envisioned the importance of the progress and future development of Cecil Township through many projects such as Southpointe and the impact it would have on the region.

Mr. Egizio was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast. As a Canonsburg High School multi-sport athlete himself, he loved to follow the Canon McMillan wrestling program and did so for many years.

He was well known throughout the area for his homemade Italian sausage and lamb.  He also loved to cook Sunday dinners for his family.

His first wife Elizabeth Krashna Egizio is deceased.  Also surviving are his former wives Barbara Adams Egizio and Jane Weber Egizio.

Surviving are nine children, Cheryl Egizio of Pittsburgh; Beverly (Frank) Pabian of Canonsburg; Frank (Kim ) Egizio of Muse; Betty Egizio of Upper St. Clair; and Anthony Egizio of Sewickley.   Richard (Misty) Egizio of Canonsburg; Robert Egizio of Southview; Randy Egizio of Cecil; and Becky (Rick) Cox of Amity.

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Jamie, Sean Egizio and James Cornell, Carissa (Josh) Boyer, Courtney (John) Koenig, Frank Egizio Jr., Matthew (Rozina) Egizio, Dante and Dylen Egizio, Ryan and Courtney Zeleznik, Domenico Egizio,  Nicholas and Domenic Neff, Justin, Jake, and Brooklyn Egizio and 13 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Oliver, Olexus, Sean Jr., Devonte, Giovannia, Jaylynn, Jason, Andre, Vanessa, Chloe, Anna, James Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
