Frank A. Krol, 96 of Washington died Tuesday May 5, 2015 in Washington Health System.
He was born April 14, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Joseph A. and Sophia Blichasz Krol.
Mr. Krol was a sergeant during WWII having served in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed at Tinian Island in the Indian Ocean on the day that the Anola Gay departed for the first Atomic Bomb mission to Heroshema, Japan. Mr. Krol served in the air offensive of Japan and in India and Burma. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
For several decades, he was employed in business and finance by PANAM Airways in New York, Gulf Oil and The Washington Hospital.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington and the Knights of Columbus, and also a member of the American Legion Post #175 in Washington.
Mr. Krol was an excellent bowler, swimmer and dancer and enjoyed reading nonfiction and historical books.
On January 24, 1948 in Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, he married Betty Abel who survives.
Also surviving is a daughter Mary Louise Cravero of New York, NY, a sister Ann Schroeder of Franklin Square, NY and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Tomczak and Helen Skolodz and a brother Joseph Krol.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday May 8, 2015 in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery in St. Boniface, PA.
