Gabriel Prince Obituary

Gabriel A. “Sonny” Prince

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Sonny passed away in Canonsburg Hospital.

He was born November 21, 1935 in Canonsburg, a son of the late Gabor and Mary Betarie Prince.

Sonny was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg.

He was also a member of the White Eagles, PNU, VFW Post #2026 and the Sons of Lake Erie.

He was employed as a Carpenter by Easley and Rivers in Monroeville and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.

He was a hunter in his younger years but later became an avid fisherman. He built and repaired fishing rods and crafted lead-head jigs, lures, dodgers, and attractors for family and friends. He was featured in the Canon newspaper in 1986 and stated he started to do this when he could not find what he wanted. He continued to do this up until the time of his death. Sonny loved gardening. He measured and plotted precisely where each plant should go and took pride in his garden. As with many things in his life, he would sit and watch the fruits of his labor.

Sonny also loved watching any type of sports, especially his Pittsburgh teams.

On January 15, 1972, he married Anita Sakovich Prince who resides in North Strabane Township.

Surviving are his son Gabor Prince of North Strabane Township and daughter Marcie (Michael) Killmeyer of Moon Township, two sisters Bernadette Monkewicz of Canonsburg, Darla (Gary) Oliastro of North Strabane, and a brother Frank (Ruth) Prince of Sarasota, FL.

Also surviving are his grandchildren Layla Marie Killmeyer, Melina Ann Killmeyer, Jude Michael Killmeyer, and Simon Michael Killmeyer.
