Gene Albert Frank Como, 92 of Canonsburg, died Monday, June 22, 2015 following a brief illness.
He was born March 4, 1923 and raised in Canonsburg, the 13th child of Italian immigrants, Pietro and Lucia Travolini Como.
Mr. Como worked at McGraw Edison for many years as an electrical tester and then became a field engineer, installing transformers all over the world. At the end of his career, he was the supervisor of the field engineering department. Mr. Como who was elected President of his class and served in that position for many years after his graduation. He would go back to give speeches and lectures.
He served in the South Pacific as a sergeant in the Army durning WWII
He liked to hunt with his friends and have lunch with them on Fridays at the Italian Club in Muse. He also enjoyed golfing and gardening.
Mr. Como was a member of the Muse Italian Independent Club.
On January 8, 1942, he married Ann Devine, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his 4 children, Gene (Judy Sunseri) Como of Pittsburgh, James (Gertrude Wegel) Como of Amherst, Massachusetts, Dennis Como of Montrose, CA, and Darlene (Robert) Witzel of Houston, his grandchildren, Paris and Chloe Como, Kristin (Eric) Clewes, Daniel (Kristy) Como, Johanna Como, Giovanni Como, Joss (Kelly) Witzel, and Adam (Shelly) Witzel, his great-grandchildren, Gregory Como, Taylor Clewes, Giovanni Como, Hallie Clewes, Heavyn Woods, Matthew Como, Nvyeah Como, and Hadley Wegel, and extended family Adam Wegel, Gabe and Tatiana Wegel, and Donald and Ashley Wegel
Deceased in addition to his wife is a son, Perry Como.
Friends will be received from 2-8 Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in the Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College St., Canonsburg, where a blessing service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 25. Inurnment will be held at a late
