Gennaro V. “Gene” Centore, 88, of Canonsburg passed away Wednesday January 3, 2024 in Southmont Presbyterian Home.
He was born August 15, 1935 in Midland, PA the son of the late Gennaro and Philomena Valentino Centore.
Gene was a graduate of St. Vincent College and was a math and science teacher with Canon-McMillan School District for more than thirty years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army and a member of the American Legion Post #902. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2005 in Midland, Assembly 936 and Fourth Degree Knight, and a member of the Canonsburg JCs. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to Disney and collecting Disney pins. He also enjoyed making wine, cooking, playing Bingo, and visiting friends.
Surviving are five children Gene J. (Karen) Centore of Streetsboro, OH, Peter V. Centore of Louisville, OH, Maria T. (Guy) Wilde of Chalfont, PA, Anthony P. (Jody) Centore of Cecil and Rita R. Kraniak of Cecil.
Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife Dolores Schildkamp whom he married in 1960, his sister Carmen Centore, a daughter-in-law Lorna Centore, two beloved great grandchildren Korra and Allison Magill.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday January 11, 2024 in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg. The Knights of Columbus will hold a Ceremony at 6:30 during the evening visitation on Thursday. Departing prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday January 12, 2024 in St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg.
Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Peters Township.
Full military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the VFW Post #191 Honor Guard.
