Helen Gloria Kuhn

Helen Gloria Kuhn, 95, of Washington passed away Sunday October 8, 2023 in Paramount Senior Living in Peters Township.

She was born November 10, 1927 in Washington a daughter of the late Charles and Louise Daka Gura.

She was a graduate of Washington High School Class of 1946.

As a mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.

Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening and decorating. 

She was an avid bird watcher and proud to be a participant in the annual W&J Christmas bird count, was very creative and artistic, loved oil painting, ceramics and other artwork and crafts.  She also enjoyed reading and fashion.

Sears Department Store employed her as a Division Manager for ten years in their Washington store.

She was a lifelong member of St. Hilary Church in Washington where she married her husband Donald L. Kuhn on February 3, 1947.  Donald preceded her in death after seventy years of marriage on July 1, 2017.

She was an active member of St. Hilary Christian Mothers having served twice as past president.  She was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Hilary for many years.  Helen was a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1972, and was proud to have been voted “Girl of the Year” five times. 

She was proud to have been selected to be a judge of the Miss West Virginia Pageant.

Surviving are two daughters Linda (Jim Donahue) Liggett of Bethel Park, Denise (Charles) Morrison of Peters Township, and two sons Donald (Darlene) Kuhn, Jr. of Avella and AZ and Dennis (Patti) Kuhn of FL, five grandchildren Jason Liggett, Heather Charlier, Jennifer (Andrew) Allen, Nathan Morrison and Rachel Morrison, and four great-grandchildren; Connor Taggart, Samara Charlier, Luke Allen, and Dean Allen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters; Esther Stein, Anna Marie Jesse, and Arthilla Rescinitti and two brothers; Charles Gura and Arthur Gura. 

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation.  All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday October 13, 2023 in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church at 320 Henderson Avenue in Washington.  Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Washington County Humane Society.
