Irene J. Van Gelder

Irene J. VanGelder passed away, Sunday, March 5th, 2023 from complications from open heart surgery. She was 72 years old.  She has resided in Washington, PA for almost 20 years.  

Irene loved her family and spent most of her time doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  When she wasn’t with her family, she loved animals and had rescued several cats and dogs throughout her years from humane societies, the last several from Washington Area Humane Society.  She loved gardening and especially loved flowers – red roses were her favorite, but she would love any type or color of flower. 

Mom, we love you!  Thanks for showing so much love to us and our families.  We cherished the time we had together.  You will be missed!   

She is survived by her loving boyfriend, Duane Miller; Four children, Kelly VanGelder, Brian VanGelder, Dawn VanGelder, and Neil VanGelder; eight grandchildren , Anna and Robert Downey, Emily and Andrew Apel, Brian J. VanGelder, Alissa VanGelder, Jeff VanGelder and Janet Voss, Jessie and Colina VanGelder, Katlin and Rudy Davila, Cody Gill and Shannon McKee; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Axel Conner, Rowan Gill, Oliver and Estella Davila, Darryl and Spencer Downey, Zander VanGelder, Kristopher and Kamryn VanGelder, Austin Apel, Daylan, Ida, and Ian VanGelder. 

Also surviving are her siblings, Gary and Charlotte Lyons and family, Cindy and Gary Reynolds and family, Connie Lyons and family, and brother-in-law Wade Fancher and family. 

Friends will be received from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday March 11, 2023 in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Avenue in Washington.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home immediately following the viewing at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Parkhill officiating.
