James V. Liberatore, 94 of Canonsburg died Sunday March 15, 2015 in his home.
He was born November 17, 1920 in Canonsburg the son of Daniel and Angelina Chiaverini Liberatore.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the 184th Army Corps of Engineers in South Pacific. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Bronze Star.
He was a United States Steel Worker at the Irvin Works for thirty-five years.
He was a master woodworker and carpenter, and avid gardener, photographer and enjoyed traveling (especially to Italy). Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Liberatore along with his army buddy Sam Amorose were instrumental in establishing a WWII memorial in front of the Canonsburg Middle School.
On October 19, 1946 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, he married Josephine Prencipe with whom he has been married to for sixty-eight years.
Surviving is one daughter Karen (Bob) Israel of Willow Grove, two sisters Stella (Jay) Power of Canonsburg, Antoinette Lucas and two brothers Louis Liberatore of Canonsburg, and Perry Liberatore of Florida. Also surviving are four grandchildren Jessica (Craig) Sachson, Jim (Melanie) Paulick, Johanna (Douglas) Kent and Bria Liberatore and seven great grandchildren Madelyn and Mason Sachson, Sophia, Mary and Jacob Paulick and Mackenzie and Riley Kent.
He was preceded in death by his son James Liberatore.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College St. in Canonsburg.
Interment will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
