John Joseph Pomykala, 91, of South Strabane Township died Saturday May 16, 2015 in his home.
He was born February 1, 1924 a son of John Joseph, Sr. and Nelli Panto Pomykala on his family farm on Locust Ave.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands all of his life.
Mr. Pomykala was a graduate of Trinity High School in Washington.
As a veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class. During his youth he was one of sixteen players on the All District Baseball team. He also played baseball for the Fraternal Order of Bears baseball team.
For many decades he was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Bears in Meadowlands and the American Legion post #902 in Houston.
His passion was playing golf and working on his family owned “Pomykala Driving Range”. He also worked on his family farm raising chickens, and then would harvest, sell, and deliver eggs all over Washington, Meadowlands and Canonsburg.
US Steel employed his as a First Class Machinist for many years.
Surviving is one sister Stella Pomykala Gualteri who continues to reside on her family farm. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, a cousin John Kudla and a sister-in-law Helen Czenzek.
He was preceded in death by six brothers William Pomykala, Walter Simpson, Joseph Pomykala, George Pomykala, Henry Pomykala and James Czenzek.
