Kathleen Marie (Giblock) Shaw

Kathleen Marie “Kathy” Shaw, 73, of Washington passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 in Shadyside Hospital after a brief battle with leukemia.

She was born March 6, 1951 in Windber, Somerset County, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Mae (Wadsworth) Giblock.

Kathy graduated from Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg, PA, in 1969. She attended Clarion University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1972. As a career, Kathy worked for Dubois Area School District as a French teacher and for St. Hilary Parochial School as a Language Arts teacher.

She was an active member of St. James Parish in Washington where she served as an Extraordinary Minister, lector, sang in the choir, and volunteered in various ministries.

For many years, Kathy was active in the Girl Scouts of Southwestern PA where she was a troop leader, led summer day camps, Thinking Days, and training events. Her lifelong friends in scouting formed the Green Angels team that volunteered their time and raised money for cancer research through the Relay for Life each May for over 30 years.

Crocheting, floral gardening, music, and luncheon dates with close friends brought her a lot of joy. Life and love revolved around her husband and twin daughters.

On June 8, 1974 in Lilly, PA she married Don Shaw who resides in Washington. Surviving are her two daughters Kelly Shaw and Kristen Shaw both of Washington, and a brother Thomas (Marcia) Giblock of Gillette, WY. Also surviving are her brother-in-law James Shaw, and sister-in-law Debbie (Carl) Shaw; and her nieces and nephews Shannon (Gretchen) Giblock, Gavin Giblock, Jamie (Tim) Deimling, Alyssa, Jacob and Hailey Deimling, Matt (Jan) Giblock and Nancy Shaw.

Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Avenue in Washington.  Departing prayers will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.  Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Washington.
