Megan Santina Wise
Being a child with a big heart; making friends with her teammates, classmates, coaches and teachers was something that came very natural to Megan Santina Wise.
Although she lived only to the age of eleven, she touched the lives of so many of whom will always remember her outgoing, and silly ways that endeared her to so many.
On Thursday December 17, 2015, Megan Wise passed away unexpectedly from complications of asthma, which had been a part of her life since early childhood.
She was born November 6, 2004 in Washington, the middle daughter of David D. and Melissa R. Barrett Wise.
Megan was a student, at Trinity West Elementary School, who loved sports. She played basketball and softball and became known by her fellow players as their “little secret weapon”. Tiny as she was, she had a huge fighting spirit that enabled her to overcome adversity wherever it would find her. Not to mention the small strike zone that opposing pitchers found difficult, if not impossible to find.
When she wasn’t playing sports she loved beating on drums, watching TV, or playing Minecraft with her friends.
When she would go to the shore on family vacations she would imagine herself as a fish while playing in the surf. She aspired to be a surfer someday, and talked about taking lessons when she got the chance.
Some of her happiest times came from helping others, and especially taking care of her “Pappy Bob”.
In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by her two sisters Mackenzie and Mary, her maternal grandparents Judy and Bob Barrett of Washington, her paternal grandparents Donald Wise of Washington, Sandra McCartney of Washington and her step-grandmother Santina Fields also of Washington. Megan had a special friendship with her great grandmother Clara Graham of Washington, who she lovingly knew as “Big Nunie”.
Also surviving are her aunts and uncles Robert and Megan Barrett of Cecil and Joy and Michael Wright of Washington and many great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her great grandparents Benjamin F. Graham, Donice and Jessie Barrett, Jess W. and Norma Jean Wise and Ralph and Freda Ealy.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington the time and place where a funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Sue Petritis. Interment will follow in The Washington Cemetery.
