Richard Strope Obituary

Richard Lee “Dick “ Strope, 81, of Washington passed away on Thursday January 21, 2021 in Washington Hospital.

He was born April 23, 1939 in Taylorstown a son of the late James Richard and Flossie Frances Waycoff Strope.

During his youth, he attended Trinity High School.

Following High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served at Fort Hood in Texas.

Dick liked hunting with his dog “Brandy”,  golfing,  gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jessop Steel employed him as a machinist for eighteen years retiring in 2002.  Mr. Strope was a past board member of the Jessop Credit Union.

On June 25, 1971 in First Lutheran Church in Washington, he married Catherine Alberta who resides in Washington.

Surviving are three daughters Ruth Ann (Rich) Cleveland of Washington, Jill (Kevin) Snyder of Pickerington, OH, and Cheryl (Scott) Putnam of Washington; Nine grandchildren Kimberly Strope, Ginger Strope, Patrick (Kelsey) Cleveland, Michael Cleveland, Alexa (Brian) Belleau, Rachael Snyder, Nick (Lynsey) Snyder, Sydney Putnam, and Spencer Putnam.

Also surviving are a sister Patsy Strope (Trevor) Holliday of Sewickley and a brother Robert (Patty) Strope of Washington; several great grandchildren Claire and Bodey Cleveland, Brayden, Olivia, Kali and Kane Belleau, Dominik Javanovski, Tatum Snyder, Sheridan, Savanah and Sierra Johnson, and Joseph Johnson, and one great great granddaughter Kambrii; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Richard “Ricky” Strope, a sister Nancy Strope Wright, and two brothers Charles A. Strope and Merle D. Strope.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the family requests private viewing and service.
