Roger B. “Boots” Murray, 92, of McMurray passed away peacefully on Saturday April 9, 2016.
He was born May 24, 1923 in Kansas City, MO the second son of the late Monte and Hazel Dudley Murray.
His motto in life was to keep active and be happy. He loved to share his joy of life.
He graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1940.
Following his graduation from high school he relocated to California to attend Los Angeles College. During college he was inducted into the United States Army and served as a combat engineer at the Rank of Sergeant. During his service in the European Theater, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, and Rhineland.
Following WWII, he returned to Canonsburg and on May 10, 1946 married Polly Payne who died October 10, 2011. Boots loved life and people, and after his wife’s passing he began traveling all over the country to visit people and places that had significance in his life. He then became active with “Silver Sneakers” and entered his first 5K race in the Canonsburg Whiskey Rebellion at the age of 90. The organizers of the race created a category for his age group.
Surviving are two daughters Beverly (Rex) Steele of Canonsburg and Diane Spinelli of Woodbridge, VA and two grandchildren Laura (Juston) Marusa and Daniel Steele.
Also surviving is a great grandson Mica Marusa.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Roger H. Murray and a brother Monte Murray, Jr.
