Virginia Szwed Miller, formerly of Washington passed away peacefully Friday April 8, 2016 in Waynesburg at the home of her caregivers Gary and Tracy McDonald.
She was born June 25, 1927 in Washington the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Mahalik Szwed.
She was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School.
Miss Miller worked right out of high school for Stormwind CPA Accounting Firm, Jessop Steel, B. Richmond Corporation. She was also employed as the Deputy Treasurer for the City of Washington treasurer’s office for twenty five years until her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Hilary Church in Washington, and the Secretaries Club.
She loved playing cards, going on vacation to Deep Creek Maryland with her friends, and spending time and holidays with her family.
Surviving are three sisters Helene O’Leary of Pittsburgh, Loretta Hassan of Chicago, IL, and Violet Bruno of Waynesburg. Also surviving are five nieces and nephews Jon (Dana) Bruno, Lisa (Matthew) Waters, Kathy O’Leary Wojcik, Brian (Claire) O’Leary, and Lance (Janice) Hassan and nine great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a nephew Jeffrey O’Leary.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Monday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington. Departing prayers will be held in the Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday April 12, 2016 followed by Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington.
