Walter I. Kostka, 84, of Canonsburg passed away Thursday November 5, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 1, 1931 in Canonsburg the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Jasper Kostka.

Mr. Kostka attended Weavertown Grade School in Canonsburg, graduated from Trinity High School and then earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in business from Waynesburg College.

He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and served for two years.

He enjoyed reading, golf, bowling and walking.

Slovenian Savings and Loan in Strabane employed him for thirty-four years as treasurer, on their Board of Directors and then as President.

Mr. Kostka was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church in Washington.

On June 5, 1954 he married, his wife of sixty-one years, Beverly Kendall who survives.

Surviving are two children Pamela Salat (Fiancé Frank Yuvan) of Canonsburg and Jeffrey (Carol) Kostka also of Canonsburg.

Also surviving are four grandchildren Kaci Knecht, Kaitlyn Onega, Adam and Rebecca Salat, and one great granddaughter Tegan and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Lisa Shipley and two sisters Genevieve Dombrowski and Nellie Kogut.

Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg.  A prayer service will be held in DeAngelo Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m. Monday November 9, 2015 followed by a  funeral mass which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 9, 2015 in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church at 605 Hewitt Ave. in Washington.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens in McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity National Catholic Church or to Washington City Mission.
