William R. Feyche, 95, of McMurray died Friday March 13, 2015 in Country Meadows Skilled Care Nursing Home in Bridgeville.
He was born September 17, 1919 in Canonsburg the son of Alex and Alice Senay Feyche.
He was a graduate of Canonsburg High School Class of 1937. Following graduation he began working for the engineering department at Ft. Pitt Bridge Works. In 1942 he began his military service during WWII in the United States Army combat infantry with the 39th regiment 9th division. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star. He served in Germany from Remagen to the Elbe River.
After VE Day while waiting to be shipped to the Pacific for the invasion of Japan, he met Hermine Schnell, who was to become his German war bride. On December 19, 1948 they were married in Schroebenhausen, Germany. They had celebrated forty-eight years of marriage when she passed away in 1996.
Mr. Feyche loved sports and was an avid Pirate Baseball and Steelers Football fan. He was very active in sports garnering championships ranging from 1935 WPIAL Baseball Championship to the 1947 European Command Football Title while serving in Germany.
He was an original member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg.
Surviving is a daughter Gabrielle Cronin of Washington, and a son Robert (Joanne) Feyche of Mt. Lebanon. Also surviving are three grandchildren Elisabeth Cronin, Alex and Marie Feyche, a sister-in-law Hilde Beer of Munich, Germany, a son-in-law Michael Cronin and several nieces and nephews in the US, Germany and Australia.
Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are a sister Pauline Mohler and two brothers John and Theodore Feyche.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College St. Canonsburg, PA 15317. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 17, 2015 in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church at 601 Boone Ave in Canonsburg with Rev. Joseph Oleynik officiating.
