William M. “Red” Ruane, 77, of Carmichaels died Friday January 8, 2016 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
He was born January 30, 1938 in Pittsburgh the son of John and Sarah Conway Ruane.
Mr. Ruane was Catholic.
Following high school he served in the United States Navy.
Following the Navy, he was a salesman at United Plate Glass Company.
Years later, he graduated from Greene County Vo-Tech and became a certified nurse.
Mr. Ruane was employed by Canonsburg Hospital and Greenbrier Treatment Center as a nurse and driver throughout his career.
He enjoyed playing golf and loved jazz music which he collected thousands of tracks.
He will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbors at Carmichaels Arbors.
Surviving is his best friend Louise Cooley, and four sons William Ruane of Vandergrift, Michael Ruane of North Apollo, Jeffrey Ruane of East Vandergrift and Christopher Ruane of Sarver. Also surviving are four sisters Ellen Ritter of Pittsburgh, Rosemary Parrish of Berlin, MD, Noreen Campbell of Clarion, and Christine Brining of Verona, five grandchildren Aja, Joshua, Matthew, Anthony and Nathan Ruane and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother John Ruane and two sisters Sheila Zwahlen and Elizabeth Allen.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington where a blessing service will be held at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday January 12, 2016 with Rev. Don Chortis officiating.
Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post #175 of Washington.
