Yolanda (Falconi) Passalacqua

Yolanda Falconi Passalacqua, of Canonsburg passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022; she was 96 years old.  She was born on July 3, 1925 in Hills Station, Pennsylvania to Dominic and Jennie Castelli Falconi.  While Yolanda enjoyed her high school years, graduating from Cecil High School in 1943, she also worked throughout these school years at various enterprises of her father—namely, Willow Beach and Union Distributing Company.  She later attended Duff’s Business Institute in Pittsburgh. It was during her stint at Union Distributing that she met the love of her life Jimmie (Carmelo) Passalacqua. She and Jimmie came to own the company and enjoyed being a vital part of the Canonsburg business community. 

When they closed, they went on to Washington Honda where Yolanda was the office manager for more than 40 years. They married and she embraced all aspects of wife and motherhood while still finding time to make classic Italian dishes that her family enjoyed.  Yolanda enjoyed golf and word games.  Most enthusiastically, she enjoyed going to the Steeler football games, especially the tail-gate gatherings before the games.

However, above all, she was about family.  She cherished her time most of all with her family—her late husband Jimmie Passalacqua, her daughter Jamie (Bill) Thornton, her grandson, Jarrod Thornton (Kathy Speregen), and her most-recently born new great grandson, Carmelo Thornton.  Jamie and Bill, lived next door to Yolanda  for the last 12 years; her grandson and family live in Maine.  She also enjoyed her relationships with her nieces and nephews.  Her nieces, Amy Tonti, Paula Polochak, and Maureen Kusturiss were always there to help her, as was her nephew, Jack Dalbo.

Yolanda was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie, her two sisters, Fern Tonti and Mary Dalbo, and by her brother Philip Falconi.

Especially helpful in the later years were 2 wonderful caregivers, Valerie Givens (Summerville, SC) and Terri Adams (Washington, Pa.)

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2 in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg .  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday February 3, 2022 with Rev. Michael Thomas Officiating.   Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
