Assunta Gasbarro, 86, of Canonsburg died Wednesday July 19, 2017 in Donnell House in Washington.
She was born November 23, 1930 in Palena, Italy the daughter of the late Mattia and Maddalena Marcangelo Campana.
During her youth, she met her future husband Vincenzo Gasbarro who emigrated to the United States. Vincenzo later returned to the Italy where they reunited and were married on October 18, 1953. A few years later Assunta and her first daughter emigrated to the United States on the infamous Andrea Doria.
She was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg where she was active with the Christian Mothers of the church.
Mrs. Gasbarro enjoyed sewing and cooking. When her children were younger, all of her children’s friends would gather on her side porch; attracted there by the aroma of fresh baked bread and pizza, which they consumed eagerly. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Her husband Vincenzo Gasbarro preceded her in death August 1, 2004.
Surviving are three children Maria Gasbarro of Findlay, OH; Frank Gasbarro of Hickory and Anna Gasbarro of Canonsburg and two grandchildren Vincenzo Giovanni Gasbarro and Carolena Gasbarro.
Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are three brothers Emidio, Angelo, and Luigi Campana and a sister Guiseppina Pierorazio.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 East College Street in Canonsburg. The Christian Mothers of St. Patrick Parish will pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Departing prayers will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday July 24, 2017 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Mothers of St. Patrick Parish.
