“Washington Man loved his church”

 

David M. Sorice, 62 of Washington died unexpectedly on Tuesday March 3, 2015 in his home.

He was born September 25, 1952 in Washington the son of the late Joseph J. and Dorothy Van Horn Sorice.

He graduated from Trinity High School in 1971.  Mr. Sorice lived all of his life in the Washington Area and helped his parents run their family business, Washington Bar and Restaurant Supply, until he succeeded them in owning the Business. 

Mr. Sorice was a lifelong member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington.  He was a devoted parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society.  He taught Sunday school, ushered, was Eucharistic Minister to the home bound and a chairman for the Church Alive Campaign.  He actively participated in all church activities.  In 2011 he was selected for the Pittsburgh Diocese “Manifesting the Kingdom” award for his many years of committed service.  Mr. Sorice was a Past President of the Diocesan Holy Name Union of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and was a current member of the Executive Board.  He received the Holy Name Medallion Circle Award in 2001 and was a past recipient of the St. Hilary Man of the Year Award.

Mr. Sorice was also an active volunteer of the Bradford House Historical Association and a member of the Sons of Italy.

He was a loving son, brother and uncle.  Surviving are three sisters Mary Jo (Timothy) Clark of Raleigh, NC, Shirley (Edward) Brex of Wilmington, NC, and Nancy (Thomas) Herbert of Knightdale, NC.

Also surviving are his nieces and nephews Cara Clark, Lauren Clark, Connor Brex and Brienne Herbert and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins and many friends.

Friends will be received from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 1290 Jefferson Ave. in Washington.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday March 9, 2015 in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church. in Washington with Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant.  Interment will follow in The Washington Cemetery.
